Concentration camp survivors – curator’s tour
Exhibition in cooperation with the Landesmuseum Hannover
Guided tour with photographer and curator Stefan Hanke
Description
On November 6, Villa Seligmann invites you to an exclusive curator’s tour through the exhibition “KZ Überlebt” with photographer Stefan Hanke.
About the exhibition
As contemporary witnesses of Nazi crimes, the survivors of the concentration and extermination camps with their different biographies are the focus of the exhibition “KZ überlebt” by Regensburg photographer Stefan Hanke. Villa Seligmann presents 18 impressive black and white portraits in cooperation with the Landesmuseum Hannover. The exhibition invites viewers to a lasting encounter with extraordinary people. More than 50 further portraits will be shown at the Landesmuseum. The part of the exhibition shown at Villa Seligmann focuses on Jewish survivors, many of whom were active in the arts or cultural sectors. Without any preconceived victim stereotypes, Hanke portrays people from all groups of persecutees from a total of seven countries. The expressive photographs show the protagonists in their respective living environments and at the sites of their persecution and imprisonment. Surprising statements in the form of quotes and unexpected historical references give the personal paths of life and suffering their own face. They provide special access to the story or stories surrounding one of humanity’s greatest catastrophes.
The exhibition will be open to the public at Villa Seligmann on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10 am and 6 pm. Please refer to our website for short-term changes, e.g. on public holidays.
