For the first time, Villa Seligmann hosted a garden concert as part of the “Kultursommer” (Summer of Culture) organized by the Kulturregion Hannover Foundation and the Hannover Region.
The “Shvayg Mayn Harts Orchestra” took the stage with Broadway-style songs and arrangements of Yiddish music, conducted by Michael Alexander Willen, the founder of the 13-member ensemble. Both of his grandfathers (Alexander Olshanetsky and Herman Yablokoff) were among the most important composers during the heyday of Yiddish theater in New York in the first half of the 20th century.
“Shvayg Mayn Harts” (meaning “Be Still, My Heart”) was founded in Cologne in 2021 by Michael Alexander Willens as part of the project “1,700 Years of Jewish Life in Germany.” The concert was sponsored by the Hannover Cultural Region Foundation and took place in cooperation with the Kölner Akademie e. V.
