Description

Oskar Strock and Eddie Rosner are among the most important co-founders of the swing and tango traditions from Eastern Europe to Japan and Finland. Nevertheless, dictatorial regimes have almost managed to erase the names of these two exceptional Jewish talents, who once celebrated their first successes in the Weimar Republic, from cultural memory. 2023 hides three dates: the 130th anniversary. Oskar Strock’s 50th anniversary, the 50th anniversary of Eddie Rosner’s return to Berlin and the 90th anniversary of their escape from Germany.

Founded in 2021 under the auspices of the International Oskar Strock & Eddie Rosner Society, ® “The Oskar Strock & Eddie Rosner Orchestra” will bring the music of Oskar and Eddie and the works of their contemporaries back to Germany and also perform their late works from the 1940s to 1970s. The band leader and initiator of the exclusive program, Dmitri Dragilev, has compiled and reconstructed the compositions and added new ones to the old arrangements that breathe the spirit of the two – not a simple “ghost orchestra”, but an educational and cultural message and at the same time a breathtaking journey through time, full of (re)discoveries, surprises, rarities that were thought lost, insider tips, catchy tunes and thus a real feast for lovers of mischievous or thoughtful old-school jazz, elegiac or energetic tango mainstream as well as upscale and jazzed-up dance music par excellence.
