Villa Seligmann has been commemorating the victims of the Holocaust with concerts for years. Together with the Evangelical Lutheran City Church Association and the Lower Saxony State Parliament, we are once again inviting you to the Marktkirche before Remembrance Day this year. The program includes the concert “Lebensmelodien”, performed by the Nimrod Ensemble.
“Melodies of life” – these are Jewish melodies, musical works that were composed, sung, played or sometimes even written down in the period from 1933-1945. The life stories of Jewish destinies are hidden behind the melodies of life. Melodies that helped to survive in the camps – or to say goodbye to this world; melodies from the former Soviet Union or the cities of Warsaw, Florence and Berlin; melodies that were also sung on Jewish holidays; and deeply personal melodies that gave hope and comfort in the most inhuman situations.
The Tempelhof-Schöneberg church district is the initiator of this concert series. “Lebensmelodien” is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Jewish Life and the Fight against Anti-Semitism and supported by the interfaith cooperation “Grenzgänge”.
