Johannes Fleischmann – Violin
Justus Zeyen – Piano
Benno Ure – Idea and moderation
Survival and downfall, love and betrayal, winners and losers: in times of oppression and persecution, many musicians leave their homeland and never return. Their fight for life and recognition is also a fight for their music. It is the only thing they have left. It becomes their home, each in their own way.
Johannes Fleischmann, Justus Zeyen and Benno Ure use music and texts to transport us back to the first half of the twentieth century, to times of exile. In the smallest format of chamber music – violin and piano – you will find the fascinations and trends of the most diverse period in music history. The presentation places the works in the context of their time and gives their creators a face.
The result is a special interplay, a concert full of discoveries and touching fates: a tribute to great musicians and their music.
Johannes Fleischmann
Born into a musical family in Vienna, Johannes Fleischmann impresses both nationally and internationally as “The Viennese Violinist” with an impressive repertoire. This diversity and his passion for chamber music is reflected in his ongoing collaborations with renowned musicians. His solo debut at the Wiener Konzerthaus was followed by numerous international tours and his appointment as a cultural ambassador by the Austrian Foreign Ministry. Johannes Fleischmann teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as assistant to Elisabeth Kropfitsch and is the founder and artistic director of the Palais Coburg Matinee and the “Althofener Meisterklassen” in Carinthia.
Justus Zeyen
Born in Kiel, Justus Zeyen initially took piano lessons with Cord Garben before studying in Hanover with Karl Engel and Bernhard Ebert, among others. Concerts as a soloist and chamber musician, but mainly as a Lied pianist, have taken Justus Zeyen throughout Europe, America and Japan. All CD releases with Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft have been awarded several prizes such as the Echo Klassik, Cannes Award, German Record Critics’ Award and Grammy nominations. Justus Zeyen is Professor of Song Interpretation for Singers and Pianists at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
Benno Ure
For many years, Benno Ure has been collecting forgotten sheet music, writing texts and presenting chamber music events. As co-author, he wrote the book “Tasten, Töne und Tumulte”, which was enthusiastically received by critics and became a bestseller. Together with violinist Marietta Kratz from the Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, he founded the “Forgotten Notes Project”, in which numerous musicians have been involved for more than ten years with more than 20 programs. Benno Ure was Professor of Pediatric Surgery at Hannover Medical School until 2023.
