Wagner and Meyerbeer
Lecture and recital
The relationship between Richard Wagner and Giacomo Meyerbeer
Description
Esther Choi, mezzo-soprano
Paweł Brożek, tenor
Prof. Paul Weigold, piano
Dr. Frank Piontek, Lecture
Probably no other opera composer of his time was as reviled by Richard Wagner – although he owed him a great deal – as Giacomo Meyerbeer, the famous and much-performed grand master of the “Grand Opéra” genre.
In his lecture “Mein hochverehrter Herr”, Dr. Frank Piontek explains the relationship between the two artists and also takes a look at the German-Jewish musical culture of the era.
In the second part, Esther Choi and Paweł Brożek (2018 scholarship holder) will perform songs by Meyerbeer and Wagner, accompanied by Paul Weigold (artistic director of the RWV Hannover).
The event is organized in cooperation with the Richard Wagner Verband-Hannover.
