Description
For ten years, from 1925 to 1935, senior cantor Israel Alter shaped the services in the Hanover synagogue with the “outstanding gifts of his voice and his spirit”. From today’s perspective, Alter is considered a legendary personality in the world of synagogue singing. But Jewish life also received a strong boost from Alter’s performances outside the synagogue, through his involvement in concerts, anniversaries and funerals.
A musical search for traces with the North German Synagogal Choir under the direction of Martin Lüssenhop. The historian Dr. Peter Schulze will talk about Israel Alter, the “cantor of cantors”.
Free admission. Registration is not required.
The event takes place in cooperation with the Lister Turm district center and the Kulturkirche Markuskirche.
