Description

On the sixth evening of Hanukkah we would like to celebrate the Jewish festival of lights together with you at Villa Seligmann. In a relaxed, family-friendly setting, you can find out more about the history, customs and symbolism of the festival of lights in various traditions. At the heart of the program is the rich musical heritage of Hanukkah. We welcome the Israeli soprano Sivan Goldman and the cantor Isidoro Abramowicz with many Hanukkah songs in their luggage. For the first time, we will also be welcoming American singer/songwriter Michael Hunter Ochs with his own songs and compositions for Hanukkah. Together we will light the candles of the menorah, sing and taste the traditional Berliners (Sufganiyot). You can also look forward to the traditional Hanukkah quiz with gifts and games for the children! All (age groups) are cordially invited and welcome!

Due to the high demand, we can no longer offer seats. To get a good standing place, we recommend arriving early. The Event begins punctually at 5 pm. Admission opens one hour before the start of the event.

Elie Kellermann Isidoro Abramowicz was born in Buenos Aires and grew up in an Ashkenazi family. He studied music and education in Argentina, as well as opera and choral conducting in Germany. At the same time, he worked for the Jewish community in Oldenburg as a choirmaster and prayer leader. In 2009, with a scholarship from the Central Council of Jews and the Abraham Geiger College, he began training as a cantor in Berlin and studying for a Master’s degree in Jewish Studies at the University of Potsdam. During this time, Isidoro Abramowicz already created concert programs with liturgical and Yiddish music and sang in churches, museums and theaters, as well as tango with various ensembles, out of love for his roots. After graduating, Abramowicz worked in various congregations before becoming cantor of the Great Synagogue in Stockholm, where he worked until February 2019. In November 2017, Abramowicz also took over as head of cantor training at Geiger College. He has been cantor at the Pestalozzistrasse Synagogue since March 2019.
