[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Part I: Lecture \u2013 Paris during the Reign of the “Citizen King” Louis-Philippe <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The introductory lecture focuses on the cultural scene of the metropolis on the Seine around 1840. Wagner, like his compatriot Heinrich Heine, described the Parisian cultural scene of that time in amusing feature articles; and it is through these that Paris will be portrayed, to quote Wagner\u2019s scathing remark about the \u201cfemme entretenue of the world\u201d\u2014\u201cthe mistress who allows herself to be kept.\u201d Richard Wagner lived in this vibrant city from 1839 to 1842. <\/p>\n

Dr. Frank Piontek (Bayreuth) will discuss the cultural and social life of the French metropolis, where Wagner had hoped in vain to arrive. It was here that he sought to make contact with the \u201cKing of Grand Op\u00e9ra,\u201d Giacomo Meyerbeer, and it was here that he came into contact with the ideas of the socialists and the German \u00e9migr\u00e9 Karl Marx. <\/p>\n

Part II: Concert \u2013 Paris, a Source of Inspiration for the Arts <\/b><\/p>\n

The second part is a musical tribute to Paris as a center of Jewish life, featuring settings of Heinrich Heine\u2019s poems by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and others, as well as music by Franz Liszt, Friedrich Kalkbrenner, and Philip Lasser, performed by Esther Choi, mezzo-soprano, David Jun Chen, and Paul Weigold, piano. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a9 Joachim Skambraks<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Dr. Frank Piontek<\/strong> was born in Berlin-Sch\u00f6neberg in 1964. He studied Old German Studies, Modern German Philology, and Philosophy in Berlin and Bayreuth. He has lived in Bayreuth since 1988, where he has worked as a (puppet theater) dramaturg and performer, an organizer of poetry workshops, and a freelance writer. About twenty times a year, he gives lectures at the Bayreuth Adult Education Center (VHS) and other institutions. <\/p>\n

\u00a9 Private<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Paul Weigold<\/strong> studied bassoon and conducting at what is now the University of Music, Drama, and Media in Hanover (HMTMH). After his first engagements at the W\u00fcrzburg City Theater and the Hamburg State Opera, he joined the Vienna Chamber Opera in 1997 as chief conductor and artistic director. Paul Weigold has conducted at many major opera houses, including the Vienna State Opera, the Op\u00e9ra Bastille in Paris, the Teatro Regio in Turin, and the Teatro Real in Madrid. He has been a professor at the HMTMH since 2006. He supervises the Master\u2019s program in opera and teaches a class in opera coaching. He is the artistic director of the Richard Wagner Society of Hanover. <\/p>\n

Esther Choi<\/strong> (mezzo-soprano and alto) studied in her hometown of Seoul and at the University of Music in Hanover, her adopted home, and has a wide-ranging repertoire. As a soloist, she captivates audiences with oratorios by Bach and Mozart as well as with Rossini arias and songs by Johannes Brahms. <\/p>\n

\u00a9 Ye Zheng<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

David Jun Chen was <\/strong>born in China in 2002 and began playing the piano at the age of six. From 2014 to 2018, he was a young student at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music\u2019s middle school. He has been studying at the HMTMH since October 2019. He has been a \u201cLive Music Now\u201d scholarship recipient since January 2020; since the 2022\u201323 winter semester, he has also received the Deutschlandstipendium. In 2024, he was a scholarship recipient of the Richard Wagner Association. <\/p>\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n [\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n
