In their duo recital, British cellist Natalie Clein and Israeli pianist Einav Yarden explore the feelings and thoughts of Jewish composers on the subject of exile. Whether in a spatial or figurative sense, exile can be traced musically in the works of Ernst Bloch<\/g>, Mieczyslaw Weinberg<\/g> and Erwin Schulhoff<\/g>. With “El cant dels ocells – Dem Gesang der V\u00f6gel” by the famous Catalan composer Pablo Casals<\/g> in the arrangement for cello solo by N. Clein, the suffering in exile is given both a liberating note and a memento. The program is rounded off with Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy<\/strong>‘s Sonata in D major, the slow movement of which has been described by some music critics as his only “Jewish hymn”. <\/p>\n

The concert is part of the three-part concert series International Soloists at Villa Seligmann 2025<\/strong>.<\/span>
\nThe series also includes the chamber music concerts on February 08<\/b><\/a> and on June 18, 2025.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Einav Yarden <\/strong><\/a>was a longtime student of the legendary pianist Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. Before that, she studied at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University under the guidance of Prof. Emanuel Krasovsky. She also received piano lessons from Richard Goode, Elisso Virsaladze and Prof. Zvi Meniker (Hanover). She lives in Berlin, Germany. Since October 2024, she has held a substitute professorship for piano at the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar. She also teaches at other universities. She also sits on the juries of international piano competitions such as the Franz Liszt Piano Competition Weimar-Bayreuth and the YPF European Piano Competition in Amsterdam. She performs regularly in recitals and as a chamber musician at major concert venues worldwide and plays as a soloist with orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and many more.<\/p>\n

Natalie Clein,<\/strong><\/a> born in the United Kingdom, attracted widespread attention when she won both the BBC Young Musician of the Year<\/em> and the Eurovision competition<\/em> for young musicians in Warsaw – the only British winner in the competition’s history. She studied with Heinrich Schiff in Vienna and plays the “Simpson” Guadagnini cello from 1777. Described by the newspaper as “captivating” and “sensationally passionate”, she has built an outstanding career and performs regularly with various orchestras. A strong advocate of new works, she gave the world premieres of Sir John Tavener’s “Flood of Beauty”<\/em> with the Britten Sinfonia and Charlotte Bray’s “The Certainty of Tides<\/em>” with the Aurora Orchestra. She has been a professor of cello at the Rostock University of Music<\/em> in Germany since 2019. She is also a visiting professor of cello at the Royal College of Music<\/em> and performs in master classes and juries around the world, including at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels and the ARD Music Competition in Munich.<\/p>\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n [\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]One-way tickets for the concert on May 25 at \u20ac 23\/18\/8 (reduced) are available in the webshop, at karten@villa-seligmann.de<\/a> or by calling 0511 844887-200.<\/p>\n
