To mark the 50th anniversary of the death of the legendary composer of German-Jewish synagogal music Louis Lewandowski<\/strong>, international greats of synagogal music are coming to the Villa Seligmann. On the summer stage in the garden, some of the best-known melodies from the traditional liturgy, music by Lewandowski, Yiddish songs and Israeli classics will be performed in new artistic sound environments under the title “Tradition & Renewal”.<\/p>\n

\nProf. Mark Kligman<\/strong>, Conductor (Los Angeles, Philadelphia)
\nAsambura Ensemble<\/strong> (Hanover)<\/p>\n

The cantor of the Jewish community of Beverly Hills, Netanel Baram<\/a><\/strong>, will be a guest at Villa Seligmann for the first time. Together with the cantor of the Jewish community in Mannheim, Amnon Seelig<\/a><\/strong>Baram will perform a varied and generally accessible program of well-known liturgical titles from Lewandowski’s oeuvre, but also from the so-called Golden Age of the Syanagogalgesag.<\/p>\n

The two cantors will be accompanied by the Hanover-based
\n Asambura Ensemble<\/strong>
\n<\/a>which has made a name for itself with diverse, multi- and intercultural music projects. The moderator and director is
\n Prof. Mark Kligman<\/strong>
\n<\/a>who is the program curator and music arranger. Prof. Kligman is one of the world’s most important academics in the field of Jewish ethnomusicology.<\/p>\n

Netanel Baram<\/strong> was born in Jerusalem. He is a graduate of the Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute<\/em> and has been a soloist in many cantorial concerts in Israel and abroad. Netanel was a guest chazzan in the Great Synagogue of Jerusalem as well as in congregations in South Africa, Switzerland, Australia and other countries. He has also performed as a soloist with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and the Kibbutz Lavi Music Festival. He is currently the cantor of Young Israel North<\/em> in Beverly Hills, California.<\/p>\n

Amnon Seelig<\/strong>, born in Munich, completed his vocal and music theory studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music<\/i> with a Bachelor’s degree and his vocal studies with Prof. Donald Litaker at the Karlsruhe University of Music<\/i> with a Master’s degree. In 2010, Seelig began a Master’s degree in Jewish Studies at the University of Potsdam<\/i> and was ordained as a synagogue cantor by the Abraham Geiger College<\/i> in 2015. He has served as cantor in synagogues in Berlin, Munich, Augsburg, Warsaw, Brussels and elsewhere and has been employed as cantor of the Jewish community of D\u00fcsseldorf, the third largest Jewish community in Germany, since December 2015.<\/p>\n

Mark Kligman<\/strong> is the inaugural holder of the Mickey Katz Endowed Chair in Jewish Music at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where he is Professor of Ethnomusicology and Musicology. He specializes in the liturgical traditions of Jewish communities in the Middle East and various areas of popular Jewish music. Orthodox popular music is the subject of his current work. He is the academic chair of the Jewish Music Forum, co-editor of the journal MusicaJudaica and director of the Lowell Milken Center for Music of American Jewish Experience<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Asambura Ensemble <\/strong> <\/span>interpreted, <\/span>contextualized and composed <\/span>classic <\/span>Music <\/span>with <\/span>cultural, interreligious and post-migrant dialog perspectives in a tonal and diversity-sensitive way. <\/span>Musicians of different origins and cultural backgrounds <\/span>Interact affiliation <\/span>in the a<\/span>sambura ensemble <\/span>and <\/span>the <\/span>belonging to it <\/span>Mediation collective. <\/span>In doing so, asambura is always looking for how familiar sounds can be innovatively <\/span>made audible and tangible <\/span>and <\/span>Bridges <\/span>between <\/span>supposedly <\/span>Contrary <\/span>can be developed. <\/span>In <\/span>more conscious <\/span>Friction <\/span>with <\/span>the <\/span>cultural <\/span>diverse, <\/span>from <\/span>social, <\/span>social <\/span>and <\/span>political <\/span>Con<\/span>fl<\/span>ics <\/span>worn <\/span>Present <\/span>asambura develops a sound language that opens up new perspectives for an appreciative, discrimination-sensitive coexistence in diversity.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n [\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n
